While it greatly goes against my grain to talk about myself in the introductory section of the web site, my friend who knows about such things says that my customers will want to know something about Jan Davenport – she says you will want to know this person who creates these fun, affordable, and lovely jewelry items to wear. So here’s what she told me to say:
Jan Davanport is a wife, a mom of 1, grandmother of 2, chauffer, chief cook and bottle washer, horse lover (Saddlebreds in particular), artist, jewelry designer, and all around bizigal! She’s very thorough in all that she does, and last but not least, she’s a woman who loves pretty jewelry, and enjoys making it so much that she’s often up until the wee hours of the morning making certain that every bead, every charm, and every spacer is placed exactly where it belongs. Much thought and planning goes into each of these hand made creations because it’s Jan’s nature to see to every detail – and if it’s not exactly as it should be, she’s been known to disassemble the whole design and re-work it!
Jan says that putting colors together in bead design is like doing an oil painting – except she does it with beads, and she never has to wait for the paint to dry. Jan’s commitment to detail is seen for instance, in the wire connecting the charms and beads to the bracelets which is all hand wrapped and she uses split rings which are like tiny keychain rings to attach charms and everything else possible to the design. This protects the bracelet from losing charms or coming apart because the pesky jump ring split open – she doesn’t use jump rings! Now you should try attaching one of those 7mm split rings to a charm, then to the bracelet. Jan is one patient woman! But once those dangles are on the bracelet, they are there to stay!
Jan has many sources from whom she buys beads, bead caps, charms, chains, and other components for her creative projects. In fact, it might be safer to say, she orders her jewelry components from a number of different countries. There’s not a rock that Jan won’t turn over in order to bring a new color or unique look to her clients. Since she’s an artist who is very adept with a paint brush, she often uses her own paintings to make lovely AA charms in different sizes and shapes to give just the right highlight to one of her designs.
Well, the more Jan ordered beads, etc. and the more she made bracelets, the more her clients clamored “We want more!” She has many enthusiastic folks who eagerly sport her designs and often declare “Jan’s designs are the greatest!”
As more and more folks encouraged Jan in her jewelry designs, the more the timing seemed right to create her own web site (actually a wonderful friend did this for her). Thus, Saddlebred Fancies was born and now we can just sit back and watch Jan grow because we all know that’s what will happen. Jan feels such a sense of gratitude toward all those folks who have helped her along the way – her friends who have offered ideas and encouragement – and especially those clients who continue to look to her for the greatest in FINE costume jewelry.
Hope you enjoy the designs presented on this web site as much as Jan has enjoyed producing them.
